Our neighbor at the Annapolis Powerboat Show was the Williams and Heintz Map Corporation, and they were great! In our last post I explained that they were having problems displaying their maps, so they purchased two SeaClutchs to hold up their display in the heavy winds. They worked great! We were very lucky to be next to the Williams & Heintz Map Corporation, and we struck up a positive relationship with the people representing them at the boat show. During the course of the show, the wind continued to increase in strength, and by Saturday there were small craft advisories. The last day of the show, and we had a plan! Chris and I had already done reconnaissance on the docks, and we headed out to with our brochure and began to talk to the various boat sales teams. We also checked out the really cool yachts! We were met with generally favorable reactions, and several of the sales managers immediately identified the promotion potential. By the third day, we were fully staffed! Our great friends Keith and Sherilynn were there along with our son in law Chris. If you take a look at the display, you can see that we made several changes from the beginning of the show. The first thing was a decision to demonstrated the holding power of the SeaClutch. The second day of the show started out breezy and sunny. We decided to work the booth in shifts, so I got up early and headed over. It was a long walk and I was moving a little slowly, so I hailed the water taxi on the radio for a quick ride over. The winds really picked up and it was a challenge for the water taxi to even dock to pick me up, so I suspected it would be a rough night for people out on the hook. We had a great weekend, but we learned several lessons about selling! 1. You have to physically have your product. It makes an abstract conversation "real". 2. Be ready to sell! Have a method of processing payment at all times. 3. Part of selling is providing a receipt. Have that ready at all times. 4. Be aggressive in promoting your product! My friend and I went to the Ship's Store to talk to the management team about stocking the SeaClutch.
